VIRGINIA I want to
emphasize the important people in this organization. It is not the
national, regional, state officers or chairmen. IT IS
YOU!!!! Members of the garden clubs are the heart and soul of
this organization. Cherish each person!! Our new youth
grant programs reaching our youth. We have awarded over $10,000 to
clubs and organizations, and we have just begun!!! We can make a
difference in children’s lives. They are the future. The National
Garden Club President, Barbara May has chosen a project for school
gardens, emphasizing her theme: Nurture the Earth: Plant Natives- Plant
Organically. This project will target elementary schools. Students will
be encouraged to create diverse native gardens. The creation of the
school garden project has no boundaries; it can be small/large
portable/stationary, but it must incorporate the education and reason
of sustainability of our native plants. This is an exciting project and
the information and more details can be found on the website. We have also
partnered with Gro-Well Brands, all natural products, this program will
begin in January 2008. They will offer rebates to clubs for buying the
products, this money will be used for seeds and allocated to school
projects that teach youth the importance of native plants, or can be
for community projects such as the beautification of public spaces like
parks and civic properties. You will be receiving more information in
the “Keeping in Touch” newsletter. As always, the
goal of your president is to help you accomplish your goals as garden
club members, to work together to make a difference in our communities
and throughout our beautiful state. I look forward
with great enthusiasm to working with you. I am here to help you in any
way that I can, please communicate with me, and let me help your clubs.
