Being elected to serve as the Director of the South Atlantic Region by the Garden Club of South Carolina board members is indeed an honor. Our members will embrace the incoming National Garden Club, Inc. President Sandra H. Robinson, a member of SAR and a former GC of Kentucky President.
The SAR theme “Inspire Conservation Through Education” was chosen to reflect the “AWEsomeness” of what we as gardeners have inherited and must pass on to future generations. My vision is to be conservative and preserve our air, water and earth resources.
The five SAR states are: The Garden Club of Kentucky; The Garden Club of North Carolina; The Garden Club of South Carolina; The Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs; and West Virginia Garden Club with a membership of nearly 20,000 members. We will be encouraging a membership increase in each of our states during this term. Working with the themes of NGC and SAR, we are expecting additional award applications on continuing and new projects as we work together during this term. Successful projects in communities, towns, cities and states produce publicity that encourages new memberships. One of the focal points of this SAR administration will be to promote the efficient and timely communication between NGC chairmen and their counterparts on the SAR Board.
The 2016 South Atlantic Region annual meeting will be held on March 13-15, 2016, hosted by the Garden Club of NC at the Hilton North Raleigh Midtown Hotel, Raleigh, NC. On March 26-28, 2017 the West Virginia GC will host the 2017 SAR Annual Meeting at the Greenbrier Resort, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Please place these dates and locations on your calendar, as we would like to have a supportive group present at both SAR Conventions.
