NGC PRESIDENT’S SPECIAL PROJECTS

AWARDS OFFERED BY SOUTH ATLANTIC REGION

NGC 1 – Penny Pines
Donor – Audrey Kelly

$25 award to the state, district, club and/or individual who sponsors the most $68 donations to the National Garden Clubs, Inc., Penny Pines program.  National Garden Clubs, Inc. and the USDA Forest Service are proud to have formed a partnership sustaining our national and urban forests through this reforestation/forest education program.  This includes wildfires, insect infestations and other natural disasters that necessitate the replanting of trees for soil protection, watershed enhancement, future harvestable timber, recreation and animal habitats.  Trees being replaced are at the discretion of the forest professionals and not necessarily of a pine variety.  Each $68 donation may be made in honor or in memory of One individual, organization or theme, i.e. National Garden Week, Arbor Day, Support Our Troops, Keep America Beautiful, etc.  The reporting period for this award is March 1st through February 28-29 each year.

NGC 2 – Plantings for Public and Special Places
Donor – Janice J. Doyle

$25 award to the club or district with the most outstanding plantings of beauty, environmental value, or sustenance provision.  Garden Clubs serve communities in a most visible way when they provide plantings for public and special places.  These plantings can beautify, have environmental value or provide sustenance.  Please submit the form available on the NGC website, along with a before and after digital photo.  Suggestions for participation:  Gardens with Edibles, Container Gardens, and Trees and Shrubs.
